BRONX, N.Y. ⁠— A pair of goals by underclassmen Joao Gavilanes (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and Joseph Sepulveda (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Bayside) wasn't enough for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team (4-11-1, 2-6 Skyline) as they fall to the College of Mount Saint Vincent (3-10-1, 2-5-1 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon from Marillac Field in the Bronx.

How it Happened

The Dolphins scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute when Antonio Padilla scored on an assist by Anthony Lima. Five minutes before the end of the first 45, Sory Konate added to the Dolphins tally as they took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. Despite the scoreline, the Bears fired four off more shots than their opposition; leading 11-7 in that category with senior Thomas Mastoras (Bayside, N.Y./Francis Lewis) contributing to three of the 11 shots to lead the team.

21 seconds into the second half, Sepulveda scored the opening goal for St. Joseph's to cut the deficit to one, 2-1. Six minutes later, the Bears to draw the match level at two goals apiece on Gavilanes' second goal of the season. The match would remain tied until Konate converted a 65th-minute penalty kick for the Dolphins to retake the lead. In the waning moments of the conference affair, Mount Saint Vincent took advantage of an own goal in the 82nd minute to seal their third win of the season and second in Skyline play.
