Men’s Soccer Opens Skyline Play With A Draw Against Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) men's soccer team took an early lead after Victor Naci's (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Pailssy) seventh goal of the season, but the Bears battled to a 1-1 tie with visiting Yeshiva University on Tuesday afternoon in Skyline Conference action.

How it Happened

After outshooting the visitors 3-1 in the first 12 minutes, Naci found the back of the net in the 14th minute after the visitors coughed up the ball in the middle third and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) fed Naci at the top of the box who one-touched a shot low right past the keeper.

St. Joseph's (2-2-2, 0-0-1) remained on top until a late equalizer from Yeshiva (4-1-2, 3-1-2) just before the intermission when Lucas Baredes was dragged down inside the box and converted on the ensuing penalty kick in the 44th minute.

Early in the second stanza, Naci nearly put the Bears back on top with a shot that rang off the crossbar in the 47th minute. The Maccabees held a 13-7 shot advantage and 5-1 edge in corners in the period, but Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Vocational & Technical) made stopped all three shots on goal in the half to preserve the point.
