FLUSHING, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team wrapped up their 2015 campaign producing two flight finalists and taking home a fourth place finish at the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championships yesterday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) and Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) advanced to the finals of the No. 2 doubles championship for the second straight year after cruising in their quarterfinal and semifinal matches over Vaughn and Pratt, winning both in 8-0 shutouts. But the junior duo would get edged out in a tiebreaker for the title, falling 8-7 (7-3).

In singles play, rookie Carlos Mayorga (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep) upended Webb's Johnathan Hale, 8-6, in the quarterfinal and upset Pratt's Haotian Zhang 8-2 in the semifinals to reach the No. 6 singles championship. The junior played a tough match against Culinary's Zachary Bryant, before succumbing late falling 8-5.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Kevin Caicedo (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) grinded out an 8-7 (7-1) victory in a tiebreaker over Webb's Chris Licato in their quarterfinal matchup, but would fall to 2015 HVIAC Player of the Year and the two-time singles champion Sergio Yarritu of Pratt in the semifinals.

Parr would also contribute another point to the overall team total securing a quarterfinal win at No. 2 singles winning 8-6 over Vaughn's Tobi Oladeji before also succumbing to the eventual flight champion in the semifinals.

League newcomer Berkeley College would capture the overall team title in one of the closest tournaments in league history. They edged out Culinary Institute of America by two points and two-time defending champion and regular season champion Pratt in third place by four points. The Bears finished in fourth place followed by Vaughn College and Webb Institute.

Recognizing his outstanding play throughout the regular season, Parr was named to the 2015 All-HVIAC Men's Tennis Team for the second straight season and freshman Matthew Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) was named to the 2015 Rookie of the Year as selected by the coaches in the conference.
