Men’s Tennis Celebrates Senior Night vs. SJC Long Island

FLUSHING, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis celebrated seniors Israel Bautista (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) but suffered a 9-0 Skyline Conference loss to sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Tuesday evening.

Trerotola and sophomore Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 6-3 in their No. 1 doubles match before Ryan Freeley & Nick Bongiorno turned the match around for an 8-6 Long Island decision.

In singles, Trerotola tried to force a third set at No. 4 singles, but fell by a break in a 6-0, 6-4 defeat. Vaitzman took a pair of games in each set of his 6-2, 6-2 loss in the No. 2 singles match. Freshman George Garyfallos (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) amassed three games in the No. 6 position before falling 6-2, 6-1.

St. Joseph's (1-7, 0-5) takes a break from league play heading to the Bronx to meet Lehman College on Saturday, April 20 starting at noon.
