Men’s Volleyball Sweeps York For Second-Straight Victory

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Four different Bears put away at least four kills as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-20) non-conference victory over York College on Thursday evening at The Hill Center.

Senior Dejon St. Rose-Cuffy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) led the attack with seven error-free kills, three blocks, and two aces.

How it Happened

St. Joseph's (2-2) used an early 7-1 run powered by kills from Kristopher Parbs-Slawson (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep), Arian Durovic (Woodside, N.Y./St. John's Prep) and Ramizjon Khudoyorov (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) to build a 10-4 lead and never trailed again. The Bears lead swelled to 17-9 on a block by Parbs-Slawson before the Cardinals pulled within two rattling off six straight. But the Bears finished hitting .438 in the set with nine kills and three blocks to close out the set, 25-19.

St. Joseph's cruised in the second stanza with another efficient hitting frame putting away eight kills at a .462 clip. The Bears ran off seven straight points of back-to-back kills from Parbs-Slawson and a big swing by Durovic to assemble a 15-4 lead and held the Cardinals to just 10 points in the set.

The Bears built another big lead in the third before York tried to assemble a late rally, cutting a lead that was as large as 13 down to four, wiping out six SJC match points, but the deficit was too much to overcome and the navy and grey locked up their first straight-set win of the season.
