Men’s Volleyball Streak Halted on the Road at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team saw their win streak stopped at two falling to Eastern University in straight sets and tried to salvage a split of the tri-match, but came up short against Lehman College, dropping a hard-fought straight-set decision on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened vs. Eastern

St. Joseph's (2-4) opened the day building an early 5-2 lead but it would be their largest lead of the match and the hosts took control and asserted themselves. The navy and gray tried a late surge in the third shrinking a 19-12 deficit to 24-21 but fell in a 25-11, 25-6, 25-21 defeat.

The Bears managed five blocks against the Eagles led by Ramizjon Khudoyorov's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) four (all assisted) but were held to just 11 kills with Kristopher Parbs-Slawson putting away four and Khudoyorov, Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) and Dejon-St. Rose Cuffy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) following with two apiece.

How it Happened vs. Lehman

The Lightning (4-7) broke away in the first with an 8-2 spurt midway through the frame that opened a 19-12 advantage. The Bears clawed their way back late with a kill by Eddy and a pair of kills by St. Rose-Cuffy to pull within two, 24-22, but Lehman held off the late surge.

St. Joseph's took an early 6-3 lead top open the second and later led by the same margin 12-9 before the Lightning struck for six straight points. The Bears drew even at 15-all and neither team could pull ahead by more than two with the Lightning winning the frame in extra points, 27-25, off back-to-back SJC miscues.

Lehman assembled a 15-4 lead to open the third and the Bears couldn't recover from the big deficit, and were held to just two kills and 13 points to close it out in three, 25-22, 27-25, 25-13.
