In the front end of their first Skyline tri-match of the season, the Bears (4-9, 2-1 Skyline) fell in straight sets to Ramapo College (14-8, 7-0 Skyline), 3-0 (11-25, 13-25, 21-25).

How it Happened vs. Ramapo

The Roadrunners opened the first set with a 10-4 lead. Ramapo collected an additional six kills to take a 10-point edge, 17-7; eventually taking the first set by 14, 25-11.

A Stephen Eddy (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) kill and Dejon St. Rose-Cuffy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) block gave the Bears a 3-2 edge early in the second stanza before Ramapo held on to the lead for the remainder of the set. The Bears kept things close while behind, however, with the score 10-8, the Roadrunners used an 8-2 run to further their advantage and a 6-0 run to close the set.

SJC took an 8-7 lead to start a back and forth start to the third set, which saw kills by Eddy and Ramizjon Khudoyorov (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow). 10 kills and a pair of ace gave the Roadrunners the upper hand at 20-17. Khudoyorov and St. Rose-Cuffy racked up three kills amongst them to retake the lead, 21-20. Ramapo picked up the final four points of the set to sweep the Bears.

St. Joseph's got off to a 6-0 start in the first set, with Eddy, St. Rose-Cuffy, Juan Herran Ocampo (Armenia, Colombia/Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day) and Rogers Hatanga Kwiringira (Corona, N.Y./Greater New York Academy) all collecting kills. An additional eight kills in the frame along with four service aces drove the Bears to an opening set triumph, 25-14.

The Dolphins (2-17,2-4 Skyline) saw their first lead of the game early on in the second set, growing to 8-7. The Bears picked up six of the next seven points, on a flurry of errors by the hosts, to take their first lead of the set. CMSV tied it twice more but it wasn't enough as the Bears distanced themselves, using a 10-2 run — aided by a pair of kills by Arian Durovic (Woodside, N.Y./St. John's Prep) to take the second set, 25-17.

CMSV had the advantage for much of the third set, leading by as many as seven, 18-11. The Bears chipped away at the Dolphin lead but the hosts came within two points of winning the frame, 23-18. Errors by Mount Saint Vincent and kills by Eddy, St. Rose-Cuffy, and Kristopher Parbs-Slawson (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) erased the Bears' deficit and guided the navy-and-gray to the victory, splitting Saturday's tri-match.
