Men’s Volleyball Falls to First-Place SJC Long Island in Season Finale

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) suffered a straight-set loss (25-4, 25-11, 25-11) to sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference play.

Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International) led the attack with five kills and added four digs. Rogers Hatanga Kwiringira (Corona, N.Y./Greater New York Academy) registered the other kill for the Bears and also added two digs.

Arturo Franco (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium Brooklyn) and Jonathan Oca (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) teamed up for a block and Oca also had four assists and as many digs.

A Helfant kill to open the second stanza was the Bears' lone lead, but the Golden Eagles (23-3, 13-0) raced out to early leads in each set and put away 33 kills at a .429 clip to remain unbeaten in league play.

The Bears end their season at 2-17 overall and 0-14 in Skyline action.
