Softball Knocks Four Home Runs, Tosses Pair of One-Hitters Over Sweep of Yeshiva

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. —  Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) knocked a pair of home runs and Gabriella Salvador (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) and Brianna Kilimet (Valley Stream, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) both struck out 11 and twirled a one-hitter as the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn softball team swept Yeshiva University, 11-0 and 18-3, on Monday afternoon.

Kristen Oddo (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) hit her first collegiate home run, and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) collected her third home run of the season as the Bears (19-9) leveled their Skyline record at 7-7.

Game 1: St. Joseph's 11, Yeshiva 0

The Bears jumped out to an early 8-0 lead with just one hit with eight walks, a hit batter, and a Yeshiva miscue. Logreco knocked the lone hit, a bases-loaded, two-run single.

Logreco highlighted the second stanza with a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Oddo led off the third with an inside-the-park home run of her own to stretch the lead to 11-0.

Salvador struck out a career-high 11 and tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout to improve to 2-1 in the circle.

Logreco finished 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Oddo went 1-for-1, with two RBI, a run, and a walk. Poppett, Bella Hurtado (San Diego, Calif./Olympian), and Maeve McKeon (Point Pleasant, N.J/Point Pleasant) each went 1-for-1, all knocking a double.

Game 2: St. Joseph's 16. Yeshiva 3

The navy-and-gray assembled another big inning in the first posting nine runs on five hits. Jaden Mecham (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills) and Oddo both delivered run-scoring singles and Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora) capped off the scoring with a two-run double.

The hosts scored three in the bottom of the first to cut into the deficit, but after the early blemish, Bears starter Kilimet remained in control the rest of the way and picked up the complete-game win, allowing one hit and striking out 11.

A Sierra Bedrin (Rocklin, Calif./Whitney) two-run double opened the scoring in the second, Gomez later doubled in a pair and Heinsch brought home Gomez with a two-bagger for a 15-3 lead.

Bedrin and Tayler Faraguna (San Diego, Calif./San Pasqual) knocked two-straight doubles to bring in the solo run in the third.

Back-to-back inside-the-park home runs from Poppett and Logreco to start the fifth capped off the scoring.

Heinsch finished 3-for-3 with a RBI, run, and double. Gomez was the top run producer with a four-RBI effort finishing 2-for-2 with a double. Ashleigh Hartwig and Bedrin both went 2-for-2, Bedrin knocking a pair of doubles, scoring three times, and driving in two runs.
