Women’s Basketball Moves to 3-0 in League Play with Win at Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Four Bears in double-figures and two players with at least 20 points led the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team (4-2, 3-0 Skyline) to a convincing, 93-55 victory at the College of Mount Saint Vincent (0-3, 0-1 Skyline) on Thursday night.

The win is SJC's third in a row and places them first in the Skyline standings after Thursday's action.

How It Happened
The Dolphins were hanging around early and even led as an Aaliyah Lyn three gave them a 12-10 advantage halfway through the first. However, back-to-back triples from Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Victoria Porcasi (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) put the Bears ahead 19-14 after one.

SJC used a 9-0 spurt capped by a three-point play on a layup from Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) to establish their first double-digit lead of the night (28-18) three minutes into the second. The Bears didn't look back from there, holding CMSV to a 32.3% mark from the floor for a 47-28 halftime score.

St. Joseph's broke the game open in the third quarter holding the hosts to just nine points while Porcasi went off for 16 of her team's 25 points in the frame. The Bears secured a comfortable victory and their first 3-0 start in Skyline play since joining the conference.

For the Bears

  • Porcasi had a game-high 24 points (8-20 FG, 6-12 3FG) with five rebounds and four assists.
  • O'Donnell was right behind her with 20 points and six assists while nabbing 14 boards for her second-straight double-double.
  • Quesada added 13 points, totaled 19 rebounds (10 offensive), and had six assists
  • Rookie Jamie Provino (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) dropped a career-high 18 points for her second-straight game in double-figures (five rebounds, four assists).
