Kiley Turns in Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 25 Emmanuel

BOSTON — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team (0-2) dropped their first game of the EC Tip-Off Classic, 111-67, against No. 25 Emmanuel College (1-0) on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Following an early 7-2 deficit and early fouls by the Saints, a three-pointer by junior Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) reduced the Bears' deficit to three at 13-10. However, the hosts ended the first quarter on a 13-0 run to close out the period with a 26-10 lead.

Senior Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) put an end to Emmanuel's scoring run with a layup to open the second quarter. The freshmen tandem of Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) put up eight points each in the period, including two made threes by Breen, despite the Saints heading into the halftime break up 63-33.

As the Saints continued pulling away throughout the second half, Kiley and Breen found buckets for the Bears; combining for 11 of the teams 17 third-quarter points. Kiley added 10 more points in the final period, contributing to an early 6-2 run for the Bears. The period also saw fellow freshman Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) score her first collegiate points. However, the Saints were too much for the Bears to handle as Emmanuel came away with the 111-67 win.

For the Bears

  • Kiley led the team with 24 points and 15 boards, recording her first collegiate double-double. She also drained all eight of her free throws in the game and blocked six shots.
  • Breen went 3-for-4 from three-point land, ending the game with 13 points.
  • O'Donnell matched her season-high with 12 points as the third Bear in double figures on the afternoon.
  • Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) led the team in assists with five.
