Women’s Basketball Blows Past Sarah Lawrence Thanks to Three with Double-Doubles

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team (11-8, 9-5 Skyline) opened their February slate with a 70-33 victory over Sarah Lawrence College (0-20, 0-15 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon from The Hill Center. The Bears have now won three out of their last four games.

Kelly O'Donnell (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep), Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), and Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) all recorded double-doubles in the game — the second time this season it has occurred for the Bears this season.

How it Happened

Kiley and Quesada contributed to the Bears' 7-0 run to begin the contest. The Gryphons managed to trim their deficit to two prior to the end of the first quarter, however, Lauren Duggan (Breezy Point, N.Y.) scored the final five points of the period to give SJC a 17-10 lead going into the second.

The visitors went on a 7-0 run of their own to start the second stanza. Sarah Lawrence eventually took their first lead of the game, at 22-19 with 5:11 left in the half. O'Donnell drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 22 halfway through the period before she gave the Bears the lead a minute later. St. Joseph's eventually scored the final 10 points of the quarter, which included a Kiley buzzer-beater, to see their advantage grow to 34-22 at the intermission.

The Gryphons' scoring drought extended into the second half as the Bears notched 25 points in the third quarter, led by O'Donnell's 12. Quesada and Kiley combined for eight points while Jamie Provino (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) scored five as they headed into the final period of play with up 59-22.

Sarah Lawrence began the fourth scoring the first four points of the period, snapping their 15-minute dry spell. They managed to score as many points as the Bears in the fourth (11) but SJC came out on top with a 37-point victory, 70-33.
