Women’s Soccer Opens Campaign With Loss at Bard

ANNADALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (0-1) suffered an 8-0 setback to Bard College in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Bard struck first in the second minute of play as Val Thomson found a streaking Dylan McDonald for the game's first tally and followed up with another marker in the 17th minute. The hosts controlled much of the play, holding the Bears to a 22-1 shot discrepancy in the period—Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) firing wide in the 21st minute. The navy and white maintained the separation at 2-0 before Bard scored twice in the final six minutes to lead 4-0 heading into the lockers.

The second stanza saw some more balance with the Bears able to get free to for five shots, prompting four saves from the Bard keeper, while limiting the Raptors to just nine in the frame. But midway through the period, a flurry of four goals in a span of eight minutes saw the hosts double their first-half lead.

For the Bears

  • Sophomores Anisah Molic (three shots, two on goal) and Deserae Sequeira (two shots, one on goal) combined for much of offensive threat.
  • Freshman Reem Shaban made 11 saves in a losing effort in her rookie debut.
