Women's Soccer Opens Four-Game Road Stand at First-Place Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer (6-7, 3-3 Skyline) traveled out to Mount Saint Mary College (9-4-1, 5-0 Skyline) but couldn't deal the Knights their first league loss falling 6-0 on Wednesday evening to open their four-game road trip.

How It Happened

The home team started off hot, firing 24 first-half shots. Two goals from Haley Murphy led a first-half barrage that gave Mount Saint Mary a 4-0 lead going into halftime. Junior Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) made her first start of the season in net for the Bears, making a team season-high seven saves in just the opening 45 minutes

Despite facing a 25-0 second-half shot deficit, the Bears blanked the Knights for 40 minutes behind Reem Shaban's (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) eight saves and two more team saves, but the Knights snuck two in the cage in the final five minutes.

For the Bears

  • Quesada and Shaban combined for 15 saves as the Bears finished with a season-high 18 saves.
  • Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) fired off the lone shot for the Bears in the first half.

Next Up for the Bears

The Bears will try to get back to level .500 heading to the College of Mount Saint Vincent (3-5-1, 2-1 Skyline) on Friday (Oct. 12). Kickoff in Riverdale, N.Y. is set for 4:30 p.m. with live stats available on SJCBears.com.
