High-Scoring First Half Leads John Jay to Victory Over Women’s Soccer

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After opening the 2019 campaign with three-straight victories, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (3-1) fell to John Jay College (2-2), 6-2, at Aviator Field on Wednesday night for their first loss of the young season.

Despite the loss, rookie defender Haley Fahrmann (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) netted her second collegiate goal and captain Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) picked up her team-leading ninth score of the year.

How It Happened
John Jay's Lily Collins put the Bloodhounds on the board just 2:17 into the contest sending an SJC clearance over the goalkeeper's outstretched arms for a 1-0 edge. Teammate Katie Healy found Kimberly Robledo for the visitors' second goal of the game in the 15th minute.

Five minutes later Robledo was on the other end, dishing to Jillian Golden who notched her squad's third tally within the first 20 minutes of play. In the 26th minute, after John Jay added their fourth goal of the game, sophomore Julia Lavelle (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) passed to Sequeira who fired a shot past the goalie from the right side to put the Bears on the board.

Just over a minute after Sequeira's ninth goal of the year, Fahrmann found the back of the net from close range after a flurry in the box to bring St. Joseph's within two (4-2). Another Bloodhound goal seven minutes before the break then gave them a 5-2 halftime advantage. They tacked on one more score in the second half while limiting SJC to four shots as John Jay picked up their second win of 2019.

For the Bears

• Sequeira attempted three shots on the night with her score being the only one on goal.
• Lavelle secured her second assist of the season while attempting two shots as well.
• Goalkeeper Lauren Quesada (Westbury, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) came in at the start of the second half and saved five of the six shots she saw on goal.
