Farmingdale Takes Down Women’s Soccer in Skyline Matchup

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (6-4, 1-1 Skyline) faced Farmingdale State College (5-3-2, 2-0 Skyline) in a Skyline Conference road test on Saturday, but fell 3-0 as the Bears' league-leading offense couldn't find their footing against the defending champs.

How It Happened
The Rams got on the scoreboard in the eighth minute after Alexandra Johnson crossed to Julissa Martinez who chipped the ball to Celina Schenk who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. However, sophomore keeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) saved eight-straight shots on goal and looked to keep the Bears within one entering the half until Meagan Murdocco scored off a free kick 42 seconds before the break for a 2-0 FSC edge.

St. Joseph's didn't attempt a shot in the first half and fired just two in the second as Farmingdale's defense proved why they're the stingiest in the Skyline with the least goals allowed in 2019. Brittney Starzee also added a tally in the 65th minute securing the Rams' second conference victory in as many games.

For the Bears

  • Shaban saved a season-high 15 shots in a hard-fought defeat.
  • Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and Haley Fahrmann (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) were the only Bears to attempt a shot on the day.
