Women's Soccer Suffers First Defeat of the Season at Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (3-1-1) dropped their first match of the season, losing 6-0 to Mount Saint Mary College (2-2-1) on Tuesday evening from Kaplan Field.

How it Happened

The Bears fell victim to an unfortunate own goal in the 21st minute, the lone score of the opening 45 minutes.

The second half saw senior forward KellyAnn Platt score a double within six minutes to put the Knights ahead 3-0. By the 70th minute, their lead grew to 5-0 before their sixth goal came two minutes from full time.

For the Bears

  • Christina Di Bartolo (Middle Village, N.Y./Forest Hills), Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), and Hayden Reis (McDonough, Ga./Community Christian School) all took a shot in the game with the latter's finding the frame of goal in the first half.

  • Reis produced nine tackles defensively resulting in positive possessions for the Bears

  • Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) picked up three saves in either half to finish the match with six.
