Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener to John Jay

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (0-1) opened the 2022 campaign with a 4-0 defeat to John Jay College (1-0) on Saturday afternoon from Randall's Island. The match served as the curtain raiser for both sides.

How it Happened

Both sides came close to breaking the scoreless deadlock for most of the first half. John Jay was awarded a penalty but Julia Marin (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) made the save to deny the Bloodhounds the game's opening goal. The hosts found the breakthrough in the 32' courtesy of Mikayla Schoch. It was the first of three John Jay goals in an eight-minute span to close out the first half.

Five minutes past the hour mark, Kayla Kelly scored the Bloodhounds' fourth goal of the match, courtesy of Katie Healy, to seal the win.
