Castaneda Bags Brace in Women's Soccer's Draw to Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. — Sophomore Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored a pair of goals for the St. Joseph's Universtiy, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's soccer team as they drew to Clarks Summit University of Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

Following a scoreless first half, a poor Clarks Summit clearance in their own box found Castaneda who poked it into the back of the net for the games opening goal. The Defenders' Julianna Baker equalized in the 72' before Castaneda received a throughball from Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and chipped the CSU keeper on her first touch from outside the box to put the navy and gray back on top. With two minutes remaining, the hosts bagged a late leveler, resulting in the 2-2 scoreline.

For the Bears

  • Castaneda's brace brought her to seven goals on the season
  • Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) came up with three saves in the draw, playing the full 90.
