Castaneda Earns Skyline Offensive Player of the Week Honors

NEW YORK — Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) of the St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's soccer team was named the Skyline Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today. It is the sophomore's second-career Offensive Player of the Week nod; having received the honor following a five-goal effort last season against Valley Forge.

Last Wednesday on the road in New Jersey, Castaneda's 17th-minute goal proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 defeat of St. Elizabeth University. She followed it up by bagging a brace in the Bears' 2-2 draw at Clarks Summit University. Her first goal came just over 10 minutes into the second half with her second coming in the 79' courtesy of a chip shot from beyond the 18-yard-box. Castaneda totaled 16 shots and nine on target in the two-match span.

Castaneda currently sits second in the Skyline in goals with seven to her name.

The Bears kick off a three-match week on Tuesday, September 20 as they host Mount Saint Mary in their first conference game of the season. Kickoff from Randall's Island Field 10 is scheduled for 8 p.m. with live stats and video available on SJBKathletics.com/live
