Women’s Swimming Wins Seven Events in Sweep of Purchase and Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — Senior Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) won all four events she competed in as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team notched a double dual sweep of Purchase College and Old Westbury, 101-62 and 115-44, in a Skyline Conference meet on Friday evening. 

Bears Top Swims

  • Cosenza won both the 50-yard freestyle (29.25) and 100-yard freestyle (1:04.75, season-best) in addition to helping both relay squads. 
  • Seniors Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and Valerie Rodriguez (Woodhaven, N.Y./New Utrecht) contributed three victories as a part of both relays and Bollmann winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.94) and Rodriguez taking the 100-yard backstroke (1:19.00).
  • Freshman Meghan Corbett (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) won the first race of her rookie campaign capturing the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best (2:35.88).
  • Senior Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) rounded out the two relay quartets and added a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:47.09) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.82).

The Bears (4-6) will return to the pool after the Thanksgiving break facing John Jay in a non-conference dual meet in Manhattan on Monday, December 2 starting at 6 p.m.
