Hartwig Wins Twice as Women’s Tennis Falls to Lehman in Opener

BRONX, N.Y. — Sophomore Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) collected both points for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team in a 7-2 defeat in their season opener at Lehman College (2-0) on Tuesday evening.

The Bears (0-1) would grab a doubles win in the No. 2 spot with sophomore Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) and senior Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) teaming up to take an 8-6 victory to trail 2-1 after doubles play.

Hartwig picked up the Bears' lone singles win in the No. 5 position rallying after dropping the first set to force a third set super-tiebreaker, picking up the third singles win of her collegiate career, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).

Senior Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) played a strong match at No. 3 singles falling 6-4, 6-3.

The Bears roll on to their second game of the season on Thursday, September 5th traveling to York College (N.Y.) (0-0) for a 3:30 pm non-conference match in Jamaica, N.Y.
