Women's Volleyball Sweeps Sarah Lawrence Salvaging Split of Skyline Tri-Match

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) slammed 26 kills over a pair of matches leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team to their second Skyline Conference victory defeating Sarah Lawrence College in straight sets but falling to The Sage Colleges earlier on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened vs. Sage

  • The Lady Bears couldn't keep pace with the Gators, who never trailed in the contest and clinched a share of the Skyline regular season title with a sweep of their afternoon matches.
  • Lauren GaNun paced the SJC attack with nine kills. Nina DiCioccio anchored the defense with 14 digs.
  • Mickey Mango had 11 kills to lead seven Gators who combined for 42 kills at a .326 hitting percentage. Sage also landed 17 aces, the most surrendered by the Lady Bears this season.

How It Happened vs. Sarah Lawrence

  • St. Joseph's led by as many as six in the opening frame, 17-11, but a late surge from the Gryphons pulled them even at 23-all. But back-to-back kills from Anna Carbone and GaNun would seal the opening set for the Lady Bears.
  • The Lady Bears pulled away early in the final two sets and cruised to 25-14 set wins.
  • GaNun slammed a match-high 17 kills, matching her season-high in a three-set affair, landing at a .389 clip.
  • Carbone recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 20 digs and 17 assists, both match highs, also adding six kills.
  • DiCioccio served up a career-high six aces and brought up 13 digs, her fifth straight match with double-figure digs.
  • Samantha Rossi chipped in 10 digs, rounding out three with double-digit digs
  • Yolanda Lyne Cando had a near double-double with a team-high nine kills and 11 digs to lead the Gryphons.

The Bear Facts

  • The Lady Bears improve to 13-2 all time against former Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Sarah Lawrence and have now won seven straight in the series.
  • It was the first meeting against Sage Colleges.
