Women’s Volleyball Opens Skyline Conference Play Falling To SJC Long Island

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team fell in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-20) to sibling rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Thursday evening at The Hill Center.

How It Happened

A 15-1 run enabled the visitors to take the opening set.

The second stanza saw six ties and Brooklyn even with the Golden Eagles at 15-all, before Long Island won 10 of the final 13 points.

The final frame had three lead changes early and the Bears level again midway through the set, 14-all, before a 5-1 run put the visitors on top for good.

For the Bears

  • Freshman Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) paced the attack with six kills and 10 digs.

  • Junior Brianna Marrazzo (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep) anchored the defense with 14 digs and added four kills.

  • Freshman Makayla Beehler (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) dished out 16 assists and chipped in eight digs and pairs of kills and aces.

Next Up for the Bears

The Bears head to Brooklyn foes Medgar Evers College on Saturday (Sep. 29) for a non-conference match starting at 1 p.m.
