Ramapo Speeds Past Women’s Volleyball in Road Match

MAHWAH, N.J. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team (5-6) suffered a straight-set setback (25-14, 25-4, 25-17) to Ramapo College of New Jersey (9-1) in a non-conference road match on Saturday morning.

How It Happened

The Bears were held to a season-low eight kills in the mostly one-sided affair. SJC rebounded after a 25-4 second-set loss to win the opening six points of the third set to take their first lead of the match, but couldn't hold off the Roadrunners who used an 8-2 run to draw even at eight apiece. After four more ties and both squads tied at 14-all, the hosts ran off five straight and took command of the set for good.

For the Bears

  • Senior Briana Marrazzo (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep) led the Bears with three kills and nine digs.
  • Sophomore Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) chipped in two kills and seven aces.
  • Senior Valentina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) and freshman Carol Melo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) had 10 digs each.
