Pratt Takes Clinton Hill Matchup From Women’s Volleyball

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team won the third set trying to rally from a two-set deficit against their Clinton Hill rivals, but fell to Pratt Institute, 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17), in a non-conference home match on Monday evening.

How it Happened

After a 7-7 tie in the first, Pratt (6-4) won five straight to spark an 11-4 run and stayed ahead for the opening set.

The Bears (1-4) raced out to a 6-1 lead to open the second stanza but wasn't enough to level the match. A tight battle saw 10 ties and five lead changes in the frame but the Cannoneers took six of the final seven points for a two-set lead.

SJBK continued to battle in the third and used an 11-2 spurt to build a 22-12 lead and held on to force a fourth set.

Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) put away four kills in the fourth set to record a double-double, but a 10-1 run by the Cannoneers after a 10-10 tie ended any hopes of a comeback bid.

For the Bears

  • Urgo logged her second double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills and 13 digs.
  • Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) also recorded a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs.
  • Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan) chipped in six kills to match a season-high and added two block assists.
  • Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) had five kills and stuffed four block assists.
  • Carol Melo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) led four Bears with double-figure digs with 23.
