Women’s Cross Country Takes 15th at SJC Long Island Invitational

KINGS PARK, N.Y. — Paced by senior Kristen Candelaria (Jamaica, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's cross country team finished in 15th place out of 18 teams at the SJC Long Island Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Sunken Meadow State Park.

SJC Highlights

  • Kristen Candelaria cracked the top 100 and crossed the line first for the Bears in 95th overall with a time of 25:41.
  • Sophomore Shannon Doherty was second for SJC just 24 seconds behind Candelaria in 102nd place.
  • Sophomore Victoria Mahone (27:22), junior Katie Wenzler (28:39) and freshman Tamarre Phajou (31:52) rounded out the scoring five for the Bears.

The Bear Facts

  • SJC Brooklyn bested Lehman, Old Westbury and Queensborough CC to finish 15th in the 18-team field.
  • Cerritos took top honors in the team competition followed by Skyline rivals Farmingdale State and SJC Long Island in second and third, respectively.

Next Up for the Bears

  • St. Joseph's harriers are scheduled to compete in the Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday, October 30th at Broadway Park in Sayville, N.Y. starting at 2 p.m.
