Ramirez, Kowlessar Named to Skyline Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Teams

NEW YORK — Freshman Raquel Ramirez (Woodhaven, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and senior Michael Kowlessar (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) landed on the Skyline Conference All-Sportsmanship Team, announced recently by the league office.

In her first year on the team, Ramirez competed in each of the eight races the Bears participated in. She posted a time of 22:52.8 in the opening meet of the year at the 4K SJC Long Island Friends & Alumni Meet. After running the 5K Queensborough Invitational in just under half an hour, Ramirez ran a personal- and season-best at that distance; clocking in at 25:25.7 at the NJIT Highlander Classic in Newark, N.J. last month. The Queens native was the third Bear to cross the finish line at the Skyline Championship meet, finishing the 6K course in 35:23.9.

Kowlessar opened his season with a finishing time of 32:33.4 at the SJC Long Island Friends & Alumni Meet. He was the third Bear to complete the following three meets at 8K each: the Queensborough Invitational (45:25.3), York College Invitational (46:13.6) and the NJIT Highlander Classic (38:57.3). His finishing time at the NJIT race was his personal best at the event and at an 8K. Kowlessar completed the Skyline Championship in 47:02.6 as the Bears finished the meet in ninth place, the best performance at the Championship since joining the conference in 2015.
