New Jersey City Handles Baseball in Non-Conference Matchup
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team battled New Jersey City University in a single non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in a one-sided loss. The Gothic Knights held SJC to just two hits and mounted 16 runs to run away with their 17th victory of 2018.
The Basics
- Final Score: New Jersey City 16, St. Joseph's 0
- Records: New Jersey City (17-11), St. Joseph's (3-24)
- Location: Jersey City, N.J. — Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Center
How It Happened
- The Bears advanced a runner to third in the top of the first but failed to advance him the final 90 feet and NJCU capitalized, as a two-run single to center from Bill Feehan had them ahead 2-0 after one. Feehan stayed hot in the bottom of the third, blasting a two-run shot to right to double his team's lead (4-0).
- From there, NJCU scored in five-straight innings highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Juan Pena to open up a six-run fifth inning. The Bears' offense couldn't get anything going until they advanced a runner to third in the eighth, but no comeback was in sight as the Gothic Knights' 16-0 advantage remained safe.
For the Bears
- Michael Ryan (2B) and Paul Pellegrino (SB) each went 1-for-3 on the day, and Adam Schwartz stole two bases off of a pair of walks.
- Matthew Rienzi (0.2 IP), J.J. McLaughlin (0.2 IP), and Daniel Egan (1 IP) all pitched scoreless outings in relief.
