Goduadze's Last-Second Goal Earns Men's Soccer First Skyline Point in Tie With Sarah Lawrence

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Beka Goduadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/Lyceum "NK") scored with one second remaining in regulation to help the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team erase a two-goal deficit and force overtime and playing to a 3-3 draw with Sarah Lawrence College on in a Skyline Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • Sarah Lawrence College scored first when Leopold Brekke made a long pass that set up Colin Berg in the 19th minute.
  • The Gryphons found the back of the net again just three minutes later when Tahmid Munat finished a cross into the box.
  • St. Joseph's cut the deficit in half earning a penalty kick in the 30th minute which Beka Goduadze converted and gave the Bears a 2-1 disadvantage at halftime.
  • With the Bears pressing for the equalizer and outshooting the Gryphons 12-6 in the second half, the Gryphons clung on to their one-goal lead until Cesar Oviedo finished a feed from Bencion Barrios from the right wing that knotted up the game at 2-2 with just over five minutes left to play.
  • But Sarah Lawrence went back up again on a Mohamed Camara goal with 3:13 remaining putting back a rebound after a blocked shot.
  • Goduadze then helped the Bears salvage their first Skyline draw of the season with a long booming shot that deflected under the crossbar and into the net just before time expired.
  • In the extra period, both teams managed an equal four shots apiece, but neither could find the golden goal. Nolan Parr made two saves in the overtime periods and Jeremy Berry made one save for the visitors to preserve the draw.

For the Bears

  • Goduadze led the team with six shots, four coming on goal. He records his first multi-goal game of the season and leads the team with four goals.
  • Oviedo scores his second goal of the season after firing seven shots, with three coming on frame.
  • Hampered by an injury for much of the season, Barrios played the full 110 minutes and logged his second assist of the season.
  • Parr finished with eight saves in goal.

For the Gryphons

  • Camara and Berg both launched four shots to lead the Gryphon attack.
  • Camara scores his team-leading fifth goal of the season, while Berg and Munat tally their second goals of the season.

Notable

  • Former Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals, St. Joseph's is undefeated in their last two meetings against Sarah Lawrence. But the Gryphons hold a 1-3-1 lead in all-time series.
