Yeshiva Snaps Men’s Soccer’s Unbeaten Run

TEANECK, N.J. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team fell to Yeshiva University (4-5, 4-4 Skyline), 3-0, on Thursday evening from Votee Park. The loss put an end to the Bears' three-match unbeaten streak in which SJC went 2-0-1.

How it Happened

In a near-even first half, Jesus Cano (Brooklyn, N.Y./Cristo Rey Brooklyn) and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) combined for four of the Bears' five shots in the period. However, the Maccabees held a 7-5 advantage in that category. Despite the 12 shots in the half, the match remained scoreless going into the intermission.

Yeshiva posted a pair of goals inside of the first five minutes of the second half. At 49', Ethan Fettaya's shot from the right side of the box took a deflection and found the back of the net. A minute later, his strike doubled their lead. Matthew Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) registered the lone shot on target for the Bears in the 51st before Lucas Baredes confirmed the 3-0 result for the Maccabees in the 59th.

For the Bears

  • The Bears finished with eight shots. The team's five shots on target were split between Cano, Volpe, Kieblesz, and Sergio Larios (Woodside, N.Y./William C. Bryant).

  • In 63 minutes, Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) recorded seven saves.

  • Luther Saint-Jean (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Origins) made a pair of saves in the remaining 27:15 of the match.
