BROOKLYN, N.Y. – St. Joseph's (5-11) looks to notch their sixth win of the season when they take on Sarah Lawrence in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate play Thursday night at Brooklyn Technical High School. First serve is at 7:30 p.m.

Storylines

  • Tonight the St. Joseph's family celebrates the careers of seniors Iqbal Husain and Javier Bosque in their final home game as a Bear. Husain has left his print on the program over four years as he is the school's all-time leader in assists with 1070 coming into tonight's match. Bosque comes into tonight with 38 career kills over two seasons, including 29 this year and has 131 career digs.
  • The Bears look to win their sixth match in the 2014 season.

Last Time Out: A total team effort paced the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team as they defeated Medgar Evers College in three straight sets, 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-9), last Wednesday at Brooklyn Technical High School.

The Bears (5-11) were led by a balanced attack that combined for 23 kills. Junior Raul Urshela (Orlando, Fla./Colonial), topped the team with seven kills, while both Thomas Kennedy (Breezy Point, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Clyde Delacruz (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglas Academy II) had five kills apiece.

Pacing the Bears on the offensive end is the now four-time HVIAC Player of the Week Raul Urshela who has 178 kills on the year, good for 3.24 kills per set. The outside hitter also has a .167 hitting percentage and averages 0.50 blocks per set. He powered 32 kills and hit an efficient .241, finishing with double-digit kills in two out of the Bears' three matches last week, and became the first Bear to reach the 500-kill plateau.

Contributing on the defensive end is sophomore Taso Kostikas who averages 2.95 digs per set and has 162 total digs on the year. The outside hitter also has compiled 75 kills and a team-high 26 service aces on the season.

Helping direct the offense is senior setter Iqbal Husain who averages 5.25 assists per set and has 289 total assists on the year.

Last Time Out: Sarah Lawrence was bettered by College of Mount Saint Vincent in three straight sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-16), in a non-conference match on March 17th. 

 The Gryphons are looking for their first win of the 2014 season, losing 22 consecutive matches and four in HVIAC play.

Pacing Sarah Lawrence on both sides of the ball is Ishaan Pujari, who tops the Gryphons in both kills (179) and digs (135) during this season. Pujari averages 2.59 kills per set, and 1.96 digs per set. Helping setting up the offense is Brent Terry, who has a team-high 151 assists for the team.
