Men’s Volleyball Wraps Up Season Series With Purchase State

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's volleyball team (2-14, 2-5 Skyline) faced Purchase State on the road Tuesday night but were ultimately stymied, falling to the Panthers in a straight-set decision, 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-20).

Junior Sean Salomons (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Peter's) tied a player on the Panthers with a match-high seven kills. He also exerted himself with one block solo and two digs. Sophomore Tim Driscoll (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Peter's) was second on the team in kills, slamming four. The Bears leader in total kills this season also collected eight digs and one service ace.

Seniors McNeilsen Saint-Jean (Brooklyn, N.Y. / St. Edmund Prep) and Alec Willis (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Joseph by the Sea) both played well as the season is drawing to a close. Saint-Jean posted one kill, one service ace, and six digs. Willis, put together another double-digit assist match (12), making that seven on the season. He followed that up with two blocks (assisted) and four digs.

Purchase State (5-15, 3-5 Skyline) was led by Luke Kubish and Andreo Otiniano. Kubish had seven kills, two service aces, five digs and one block (assisted). Otiniano smashed six kills, eight digs, and two service aces.

The Bears most productive outings occurred in the second and third sets. Three straight kills by Salomons helped the Bears achieve a 20-19 lead before the set slipped away. The Bears also fought back from a seven-point deficit in the third set, to bring the game within reach (20-23), but to no avail.

The Bears will be striving for a season series sweep and a split when they go up against Sarah Lawrence and Mount Saint Vincent, respectively, for their final matches of the season on Saturday, April 7.
