Chiaramonte Tabbed AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month

BROOKLYN, NY – Adding to her list of accolades for the 2011 season, junior Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of March. Chiaramonte, who was last season's AD3I Player of the Year, has already won AD3I's Player of the Week Award for the week ending March 20th, and is a two-time Co-Pitcher of the Week for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

It is Chiaramonte's second time receiving the honor in her career, also named Student-Athlete of the Month in March her freshman year.

Chiaramonte made five starts in March and allowed an earned run in only two of them. In 35.2 innings, Chiaramonte struck out 38 batters while walking only two and compiled a 6-0 record with a 0.39 earned run average. In St. Joseph's home opener, Chiaramonte pitched her second career perfect game over City Tech, striking out a season high 12 batters in the process.

When she wasn't dominating in the circle, Chiaramonte helped the Lady Bears at the plate collecting ten hits and driving in a team-high ten runs in the month. She drove in at least one run in seven of the team's ten games in March, while batting .310 and scoring four runs.

Chiaramonte and the Lady Bears have started off April just as hot, tallying a 5-1 record in the first six games. Chiaramonte has won all three of her April starts and has seven hits in 17 at-bats as she looks to repeat as AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month. St. Joseph's begins a four-doubleheader home stand Tuesday, April 12 against Brooklyn College at Padavan-Preller Fields in Bellerose, NY.
