Kaspar Named Skyline Softball Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK — Recognizing her strong effort in the circle on Sunday in a 1-0 league victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent, St. St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman pitcher Allison Kaspar (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) was selected as the Skyline Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for games played April 22-28, announced by the league office today.

Having worked just three innings prior to her first collegiate start in game two of the conference doubleheader, Kaspar shut down a Dolphin squad that rang out 15 hits and scored 11 runs in the opener, firing a complete-game, one-hit shutout. In seven innings of work, only two runners reached scoring position as the rookie struck out one and walked just one and improved to 2-0 in the circle.

The weekly award is the fourth collected by a Bear this season and the second Rookie of the Week nod.

The No. 5-seeded Bears (16-19, 8-8) and No. 4-seeded Dolphins (15-20, 10-6) will meet again in a rubber game on Wednesday, May 1 in the first round of the 2019 Skyline Conference Softball Championship. The single-game elimination will start at 6 p.m. at the Farmingdale State College softball field with live stats and video available on SJCBears.com.
