Softball Launches Three Home Runs in Sweep of Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. —  Sofia Logreco (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) hit her first collegiate grand slam and Arianna Heinsch (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) and Vivian Tomovich (San Diego, Calif./Serra) both went yard as the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn softball team combined for 40 runs over a doubleheader sweep of Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears (14-6, 2-4) cruised to 15-0 and 25-1 victories over the Gryphons (0-12, 0-7) to pick up their first league wins of the season and extend their streak to five games.

Game 1: St. Joseph's 15, Sarah Lawrence 0

The Bears scored five runs in the first highlighted by Heinsch's solo blast and Tomovich's two-run shot. A Brianna Kilimet (Valley Stream, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) two-out single capped off the scoring.

An Alexis Buchanan (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley) two-run single started the scoring in the second with Tomovich later bringing her home for an 8-0 lead.

The Bears erupted for six runs in the third, all coming after the first two batters were retired. Tomovich collected her fourth RBI with a bases-loaded walk and Lauren Van Der Kamp (Sacramento, Calif./Rosemont) highlighted the inning with a bases-clearing double.

Jessica Mecham (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills) tossed three near-perfect innings to open the contest before allowing her lone two hits in the fourth, but went the distance to collect her second win in the circle on the season, striking out six.

Van Der Kamp finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Tomovich went 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Her home run was the first of the season and the third of her career.

Buchanan, Heinsch, and Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) all went 2-for-3 and combined to score seven runs. Buchanan drove in two runs and Heinsch's solo blast was her second of the season.

Game 2: St. Joseph's 25, Sarah Lawrence 1

A big 11-run first set the table for their second-highest scoring game in program history, one run fewer than in a triumph over Brooklyn College in March. After a quick run off a Gryphon miscue, Logreco cleared the bases with a two-out grand slam for a 5-0 lead. Bella Gomez (Whittier, Calif./Sonora), Hartwig, and Tomovich all contributed with RBI base hits in the inning.

The navy-and-gray posted six in the second headlined by a Buchanan two-run single and a Maeve Mckeon (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) RBI single.

Mecham and Tayler Faraguna (San Diego, Calif./San Pasqual) both belted run-scoring doubles in the fourth as Bears expanded their lead to 22-0.

Allison Kaspar remained perfect in the circle, improving to 3-0, tossing a complete game, striking out five and allowing two hits and one run — all in the fourth.

Logreco and Buchanan both finished 2-for-3 and combined to drive in seven runs. Logreco drove in four runs, scored twice, and also had a triple. Her home run was her second of the season and the first grand slam by a Bear since 2019. Buchanan had three RBI and as many runs.

McKeon and Bella Hurtado (San Diego, Calif./Olympian) both went 3-for-3 with a RBI and combined for five runs scored. Faraguna and Hartwig both batted 2-for-2 and drove in a run. Hartwig scored twice and knocked a double. Faraguna scored three times and belted two doubles.

In total, 11 different Bears recorded an RBI.
