Women's Basketball Ends Season-Opening Road Trip with Defeat to Drew
MADISON, N.J. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's basketball team saw action on Sunday afternoon, falling to Drew University 93-55 from Baldwin Gym.
How it Happened
The Rangers (6-1) raced out to a 21-0 lead, setting the tempo for the rest of the half. The run was snapped by when Destiny Hurt (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) found the cup at the 3:23 mark. Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) and Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.Y./Keyport) also scored for the Bears (2-3) in the period.
Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) brought SJBK to double figures early in the second. A 13-0 run over four minutes extended the hosts' lead to 32 before entering the break with a 53-16 advantage.
Kiley put up 13 points in the second half. Despite the Bears winning the fourth quarter, 22-21, going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and Aaniya Telford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) dropping nine points, the damage was done as Drew picked up the home win.
For the Bears
- Kiley led all scorers with 15 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field. She also had four assists and as many blocks.
- Hurt and Telford each had nine points while Adeoye finished with eight.
- The trio of Kiley, Hurt, and Adeoye all had a game-high six rebounds.
- Breen and Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) each had five assists.
