Lady Bears Soccer Dominates Fisher, Winning Third Straight

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team exploded for three goals in the first 35 minutes of the game en route to a 5-0 shutout of NAIA foe Fisher College on Sunday afternoon at Kaiser Park.

The Lady Bears (5-3-2) dominated the action with Fisher (1-8) having trouble producing quality shot attempts. For the game St. Joseph's held a 25-5 shot advantage. 

The Lady Bears were led by freshman Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) and junior Cynthia Gambino (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) who each tallied two goals in the victory,

St. Joseph's got on the board in the 16th minute when Gambino swerved through defenders and took a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net.  The Lady Bears would strike again in the 27th minute when freshman Daniella Valencia (Corona, NY/Bayside HS) took a ball in traffic from the edge of the box and put it past the goalkeeper to give St. Joseph's a 2-0 lead.

Gambino would strike again in the 32nd minute off a cross from Valencia that would put the Lady Bears up 3-0 going into halftime. 

The second half was dominated by St. Joseph's controlling the ball in the Falcons half of the field for most of the half ending up with a 15-1 shot advantage.  Chernyakhovsky would score in the 66th minute and 71st minute off free kicks just outside the penalty area.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport HS) made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.

Fisher was led by Ashley De Sousa who had two shots on goal for the game. The Falcons goalkeeper Jessica Russo made 11 saves in a losing effort. 

St. Joseph's looks to continue its winning ways as they head into next week's HVWAC tournament action Sunday, October 28th.
