ALBANY, N.Y. — Senior Kristen Candelaria (Jamaica, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) broke the school saves record for the third time this season but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team suffered a 7-0 setback to the Sage Colleges on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Final Score: Sage 7, St. Joseph's 0
- Records: Sage (6-4), St. Joseph's (1-6)
- Location: Albany, N.Y. – ACPHS Soccer Field
How It Happened
- The Gators needed just 2:49 to get on the board when Samantha Trimblett took a through ball and found the back of the net. The hosts would three times in the opening 22 minutes and carried a 6-0 lead by the intermission.
- Candelaria faced a firing squad that launched 71 shots for the contest and the senior made 36 saves. Despite a 31-1 shot discrepancy in the second half, Candelaria made 17 saves and helped hold the Gators to just one goal over the final 45.
- The Bears registered their first shot on goal in the 61st minute when Christina Caruso launched a bending ball from the top left of the penalty box, but was stopped by the Gator keeper.
- Four minutes later, Christine Emigholz set up another scoring opportunity dribbling a ball up the left side of the box and crossing it back, but was also gobbled up by the keeper.
The Bear Facts
- Sage takes both meetings in the series that started last season.
- The 71 shots allowed and 43 shots on goal were both the most surrendered by the Bears in a single game.
