Lady Bears Swimming Falls to St. Joseph's-LI

PATCHOGUE, NY – The St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn women's swimming team lost to their sibling campus in Long Island, 137-111, in non-conference action on Friday evening at Danzi Athletic Center.  Sophomore Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) paced the Lady Bears placing in all her events.

McMaster captured the team's only first place finish on the night in the 100 yard freestyle hitting the wall in 1:06.98, a time which she's improved in every meet this season.  The sophomore freestyle specialist was edged out from a second first place finish by 0.24 sec in the 50 yard freestyle, but McMaster still set her best time of the season (29.44).

After leading most of the 50 yard breaststroke, sophomore Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was out touched at the wall by 0.25, missing out on her second individual first place finish this season.  Her time of 42.95 was a season-best.  Fiorella also placed in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, taking third in each event.

In another close battle, Dashana Payne (Brooklyn, NY/Erasmus) missed out on a fourth place finish by 0.03 in the 50 yard backstroke.  The combined difference of 0.52 seconds in those three events caused a 22 point swing that could have changed the complexion of the meet.

Also turning in solid performances, taking second place finishes were Catherine Muldoon (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) in the 500 yard freestyle, Irene Triant in the 50 yard backstroke, Nicolle Velez (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) in the 100 yard butterfly and Olivia O'Hara (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Lady Bears have a one month hiatus and return to the pool on Tuesday, January 12 as they host the programs first ever swim meet against the College of St. Elizabeth.  Start time is 7:30 p.m. at Brooklyn Technical High School.
