Sarah Lawrence Swims Past Lady Bears

BRONXVILLE, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's swimming team (1-1, 1-1 HVWAC) fell to Sarah Lawrence 132-112 in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference dual on Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Recreation Center.

Sophomore co-captain Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) paced the Lady Bears in defeat capturing an individual victory in the 100 yard freestyle (1:08.25).  In her other two events, the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard individual medley, McMaster posted her best times of the season but wasn't enough to overtake Sarah Lawrence.

Also capturing an individual win was rookie Nicolle Velez (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) who grabbed first in the 50 yard butterfly (38.69) with sophomore co-captain Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) finishing right behind her in second (39.44).

Overall the team fared well, posting 20 individual season-best times, but wasn't enough to defeat a the defending HVWAC champions who have constant access to pool time.

The Lady Bears jump back in the pool on Thursday, November 19th to face College of Staten Island on the road in a non-conference dual.  Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
