McMaster and Sonnylal Sweep HVWAC Weekly Accolades

BROOKLYN, NY – After leading the St. Joseph's College women's swim team to their second win of the season junior Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and sophomore Laura Sonnylal (Richmond Hill, NY/Archbishop Molloy) were named the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Swimmer and Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 12, 2010.

McMaster captured a pair of individual victories against College of St. Elizabeth and anchored both relays to a first place finish leading the Lady Bears to a 61-49 victory. In two meets on the week, McMaster set a new school record in the 50 yard freestyle (28.61) and lowered her personal best time in the 100 individual medley (1:20.58).

Sonnylal took second place in the 100 individual medley (1:22.25) against St. Elizabeth's, her only individual event of the meet. She also helped her medley and freestyle relays to first place finishes. Sonnylal also turned in a strong performace in the St. Joseph's/USMMA double dual, placing third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:33.27).

The Lady Bears dive back in the pool on Saturday, January 22nd, hosting the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Brooklyn Technical High School. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by the women's basketball game against Apprentice.
