Three Lady Bears Receive HVWAC Weekly Honors

NEW YORK, NY – In weekly reports released by the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) earlier today, three Lady Bears were selected for the conference’s weekly accolades for contests from October 12-18. Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra) and Kathleen McCarthy were named Players of the Week in tennis and volleyball, respectively, while Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) was named Rookie of the Week in cross country.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – In an announcement by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) earlier this week, Victoria Curran (Queens, NY/Mary Louis), Christina Indart (Brooklyn, NY/St. Saviour), Jackie Marinello (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood) from the St. Joseph’s College women’s volleyball team were named to the 2009 USCAA All-Academic team.

BROOKLYN, NY – #5 St. Joseph’s College women’s volleyball lost to #4 Medgar Evers College in five sets (25-16, 22-25, 25-27, 25-16, 15-10) on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Tournament. The loss snaps the Lady Bears streak of five-straight HVWAC Tournament Championships.

BROOKLYN, NY – In their final conference match of the season, the St. Joseph’s College women’s volleyball team lost a close five-set match (25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-10) to Medgar Evers on Friday night at Brooklyn Technical High School. Medgar Evers finishes as the #4 seed while St. Joseph’s takes the #5 seed entering the HVWAC Tournament on Thursday.
Lady Bears Drop Both Ends of Tri-Match

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College women’s volleyball team (3-13) lost to Old Westbury 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-13) and Brooklyn College 3-1 (26-28, 25-16, 27-25, 29-27) on Saturday afternoon at Brooklyn Technical High School. Junior Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood) led the Lady Bears with 13 kills and 23 digs over the two matches, after missing three weeks with a leg injury.

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island Dolphins (9-12) utilized a balanced attack to defeat the St. Joseph’s College women’s volleyball team in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-15) at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center on Wednesday night. Victoria Curran (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) led St. Joseph’s, falling one dig shy of her first career triple double in a losing effort.
