Women's Volleyball Set to Open The Hill Center With Eight-Game Home Slate

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team will ring in the inaugural season of the new Hill Center as Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Coach of the Year Kathleen O'Neill released the 2014 schedule today.

The Lady Bears will prepare for the eight-game schedule at the Hill Center opening the season with five straight road games starting with Cooper Union (Sept. 5) and ending the road stretch with two tough opponents in ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament qualifier Merchant Marine Academy (Sept. 17) and HVIAC rivals The College of New Rochelle (Sept. 18), looking to reverse the outcome in a rematch of last year's title game.

Circle Friday, September 19 on your calendars as the Lady Bears will host The King's College (Pa.) in the long-anticipated first official home game on campus in the newly built facility. For the past six years, St. Joseph's played their home games at nearby Brooklyn Technical High School for six years and prior to that had called Bishop Loughlin High School their home.

The two-time defending HVIAC regular season champions will look to continue their 12-game conference winning streak since 2012 with four league games at home this season – King's College (N.Y.) (Sept. 24), Pratt Institute (Oct. 7), Culinary (Oct. 18) and Yeshiva (Oct. 20). Also visiting the Hill Center are Washington Adventist (Sept. 21) for a Sunday matinee and CUNYAC rivals York College (Oct. 16) and Lehman College (Oct. 22).

Highlighting the road game slate is a trip to Massachusetts for a tri-match at NECC runner-up Regis College on September 27 along with Pine Manor College. St. Joseph's will also continue rivalries with road tilts against former HVIAC foes Medgar Evers (Oct. 2) and Sarah Lawrence (Oct. 24).

The Lady Bears hope to use the heavy home game schedule to acclimate to the new Frank P. Carbone Court as the road to the HVIAC Championship will pass through Vanderbilt Ave. St. Joseph's will host the 2014 HVIAC Tournament on Sunday, October 26 and the Lady Bears seeking their first conference title since 2008.
