Carbone First To 1,000 Digs But Women's Volleyball Tripped Up at Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y./Mary Louis) compiled a 13-dig, 11-assist double-double and became the first Lady Bear to amass 1,000-career digs as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to the College of Staten Island on Thursday night.
The Basics
- Final Score: Staten Island 3, St. Joseph's 0

How It Happened
- In a highly contested opening set, the teams traded the lead early before the Dolphins took the lead for good at 10-9, but the Lady Bears never let them pull ahead by more than four. A Crystal Moran ace capped a 3-0 run to pull within one, 20-19, but the SJC fell short of drawing even and fell 25-22.
- Carbone brought up seven of her team-high 13 digs in the opening frame to reach the milestone, needing just three to hit the mark.
- The Dolphins hit a blistering .407 (14-3-27) in the second stanza to run away with the frame and SJC combined for just five kills in the set.
- Lauren GaNun put down eight kills and one block in set three, but a 4-0 Dolphin run at the 15-14 mark created the separation for the rest of the frame and ended the match in straight sets.
For the Lady Bears
- GaNun pounded a match-high 15 kills and had a solo block.
- Carbone added six kills to the attack and recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
- Nina DiCioccio had five digs with 12 digs.
- Samantha Cacace chipped in four kills with 11 digs and five assists.
For the Dolphins
- Selma Kolenovic slammed 11 kills, hitting .450 for the match.
- Rosemarie Gonzalez landed eight kills at a .429 clip.
- Victoria Wong anchored the defense with 22 digs.
- Brittany Minondo dished out 25 assists and directed the Dolphin offense to .283 hitting
