Women's Volleyball Opens Season at William Paterson
WAYNE, N.J. — Sophomore Nina DiCioccio (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) led six different Bears to record a kill but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set road decision to William Paterson University in their 2016 season opener on Thursday evening.
The Basics
- Final Score: William Paterson 3, St. Joseph's 0
- Set Scores: 25-4, 25-11, 25-17
- Records: William Paterson (3-1), St. Joseph's (0-1)
- Location: Wayne, N.J. – WPU Rec Center
How It Happened
- The young Bears squad that features five freshmen got off to a slow start in the opening stanza and couldn't keep pace with the hosts who didn't commit an attack error in the set and finished with a .520 attack percentage.
- St. Joseph's managed to find a better rhythm in sets two and three and totaled 13 kills in the final two frames and six different Bears put away a kill, but they couldn't slow down the Pioneers attack that saw three reach double-digit kills.
For the Bears
- Sophomore Nina DiCioccio led the balanced attack with five kills and brought up seven digs.
- Senior Samantha Cacace matched a career high slamming four kills and added six digs.
- Freshman Alanna Palomino dished out 16 assists in her first collegiate match and fellow rookies Valentina Urgo, Elizabeth Quahliero and Briana Marrazzo combined for seven kills. Marrazzo also led the defense with nine digs.
