The Bear Facts

St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) will look for their first win of the season against SJC Long Island. The schools will square off for the first time since April 14, 2019; a game in which the Bears won the backend of the weekend doubleheader. At the plate, William DeLuca logged an RBI as he and Kevin Reyes went 2-for-4. Junior Louis Lombardi started the game on the bump, going six innings striking out three, and conceding a pair of runs while DeLuca picked up the save in the 4-3 victory.

Sophomore shortstop Lucas Collet earned a spot on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll after going 5-for-12 this past weekend against the Merchant Marine Academy, including a 2-for-5 game with three RBI on Saturday. DeLuca went 4-for-11 this weekend, scoring three runs and recording an RBI triple on Monday night. The series also saw Louis Lombardi drive in three runs on as many hits.

Anthony Hernandez had a 4-for-8 day on Saturday, bagging a double and driving in a pair of runs. The freshman saw his four-game hit streak snapped after going 0-for-4 in the series finale.

Hernandez remains the Bears’ hit leader with 11 while also leading the team in batting average (.355). Collet leads the team with six RBI and Reyes leads in slugging (.467).

On the bump, reliever Jake McDonald posts a team-low 4.50 ERA while Lombardi, Matt McHugh, and Mike Santoriello all have seven strikeouts this campaign.

Inside the Eagles Nest

St. Joseph’s (Long Island) enters this series with their sibling rivals from Clinton Hill with a 2-4 record. The Golden Eagles will be in search of their eighth-consecutive Skyline Conference Tournament berth.

After leading the team in batting average with a .336 mark in 2019, Anthony Raucci again leads the team in the category, averaging .381. The senior infielder also leads the team in slugging (.571), on-base percentage (.480), and RBI (5). In Saturday’s doubleheader against Old Westbury, Raucci went a combined 5-for-8 with driving in four runs, including a three-run homer in the first inning of game two; which SJCLI won 7-2.

The twin bill also saw sophomore Paul Gugliuzzo ammas five hits and three runs scored against the Panthers. Despite a quiet 0-for-3 day on Monday afternoon, Gugliuzzo remains the team leader with nine hits and six runs scored. Additionally, he – along with Raucci and Ryan Decoursey – have gone yard for the Golden Eagles this campaign thus far.

Opening Day starter Ryan Foran currently holds the team’s second-lowest ERA at 3.46. The junior tossed a complete game against Mount Saint Vincent (March 21), allowing just a pair of runs and five hits while striking out six in his first win of the season. Foran was tabbed with the loss on Saturday against Old Westbury, going six innings and fanning four. Foran leads the team in innings pitched (13) while his 10 K's have him tied for fifth in the Skyline.
