Coming off their emphatic 60-53 victory over SUNY Maritime on Wednesday night, St. Joseph’s Brooklyn hosts Sarah Lawrence College seeking their first win streak of the season in another inter-division matchup.

Chris Mikos paved the way for the navy and gray against Maritime behind his Skyline Conference-tying sixth double-double of the season (21 pts, 12 reb) on 8-of-12 shooting. Totaling 22 minutes off the bench, rookie Chris Williams posted career highs of 11 points and seven rebounds. Richie Simon joined Mikos in double-figure rebounding, collecting 10 caroms. Simon and Joseph Ghotra shared the team lead with four assists each.

As a team, the Bears went 18-of-25 from the free-throw line against the Privateers (72.0%), the fourth time this campaign where they’ve shot over 70 percent. Ghotra, Evan Sirakis, and Samil Melo went a combined 6-of-6 from the charity stripe while Mikos shot 5-of-7 from the line and Williams 6-of-10.

Averaging 36 minutes per game, good for second in the conference, Mikos remains third in points per game (20.1) and rebounds per game (10). Simon’s 8.6 boards per outing has him sixth, just missing the top five.

Mikos was one of four Bears to score in double figures (13 pts) when they last faced the Gryphons in February 2020. The then-sophomore added four steals, a pair of rebounds, and an assist to his stat line as SJC went on to win, 80-64.

Sarah Lawrence looks to snap a three-game skid as they visit SJC Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. The Gryphons were on the wrong end of a 78-64 result against SJC Long Island on Wednesday night.

Senior forward Justin Bailey set a new career high, dropping 29 points on 14-of-23 shooting. The Pennsylvania native pulled 13 boards to record his fourth consecutive double-double. Bailey also totaled five assists. Fellow senior Liam Barry scored 14 points with eight rebounds while sophomore Lucas Murray flirted with a near double-double behind eight points and nine caroms.

Barry’s team-leading 15.1 points per game are good for eighth in the Skyline. Bailey is averaging a near-double-double on the year with 12.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game — cracking the top 20 in scoring in the league. The pair shares the team lead with 14 steals while Bailey’s eight blocks tops the Gryphons. Xiyuan Zhang’s four blocks places him second on the squad.

Sarah Lawrence’s 15.36 offensive rebounds per game tops the Skyline and ranks 15th nationally in Division III.

Despite trailing in the all-time series 3-18, the Gryphons are winners of two of the last three meetings and are tied at 3-3 since the 2016-17 season.
