The Bear Facts

The Bears look to close out the 2021-22 home slate on a positive note and celebrate the careers of the seniors from the Classes of 2021 & 2022 tonight. 

On Saturday in their Play4Kay game, the Bears dropped a 79-64 decision to third-place Mount Saint Vincent after shrinking a double-digit deficit to five in the fourth. Kelly O’Donnell dropped a game-high 21 and grabbed eight rebounds to become the program’s leading rebounder. Emma Kiley turned in a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double with four blocks. Jamie Provino drained five trifectas en route to 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

When the squad traveled to Farmingdale in their second game of the new year, the Bears outscored the Rams 30-10 in the fourth quarter but saw their comeback bid run out of time. Kiley led three Bears in double figures with 21 points, five boards, and four blocks. Alexis Breen recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 dimes. Grace Kennedy chipped in 18 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting with four triples.

O’Donnell surpassed Samantha Retas '15 and now sits atop the Bears record book with 965 rebounds. Sitting in second in scoring with 1,958 points, she creeps closer to the exclusive 2,000-point scoring plateau and the Bears record of 2,004 points held by Rosanne Wahl '00.

O’Donnell’s 20.1 points an outing ranks second in the Skyline and she places sixth with 10.0 boards. Her 83.9% shooting from the charity stripe also leads the league with the team connecting on a league-leading 78%. Breen directs the offense with a league-leading 5.1 assists per game. Kiley ranks second among the league’s rim protectors with 2.3 rejections per game.

Farmingdale State visits Brooklyn looking to solidify their sixth-place standing, trying to lock up a spot in the Skyline Conference Championship set to begin a week from tonight. The Rams control their own destiny needing to win two of their final four contests. FSC also sits just a half-game behind fifth-place SJC Long Island and are scheduled to meet again on Thursday having defeated them on Saturday in their last time out.

In the 93-84 triumph over the Golden Eagles, Layla Mendoza filled up the stat sheet with a game-high 36 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three blocks. Samantha Muller also turned in a double-double with 29 points, game-high 14 rebounds, three assists and four steals. Anna Zabrowska fell one rebound shy of a third double-double and netted 16 points, with three assists and two blocks.

When the Rams and Bears met in Farmingdale in January, the three-headed monster of Mendoza, Muller, and Zaborowska combined for 73 points in a 88-79 FSC win. Muller and Mendoza went for 32 and 31, respectively, with Mendoza pulling 10 boards for a double-double and Muller falling one rebound shy. Zaborowska dished out 12 assists with 10 points and 7 rebounds. 

Farmingdale enters second in the league in field goal shooting connecting on 40.4% led by Mendoza who leads the league at a 53.0% clip followed by Muller in seventh at 42.4%. Mendoza (19.9 ppg) and Muller (19.0 ppg) place 4th and 5th in the league in scoring.
