Summer Spotlight: David Louison, Men's Basketball

Summer Spotlight: David Louison, Men's Basketball

We kick off a new summer feature giving you a more personal look at some of our student-athletes and staff members. Check back every Thursday for our next installment. (If any student-athletes would like to participate on a future spotlight, please e-mail amacapugay@sjcbears.com.)

Men's basketball to-be-senior forward David Louison was recently honored as a 2014 Outstanding Athlete at the SJC Golf Classic last month. The two-time USCAA First Team All-American and three-time All-HVIAC selection joined the coveted 1,000-point scoring club this season and helped the Bears capture the HVIAC Championship this past February.

About you

I came to St. Joseph's because…

Doctor-Coach (New title LOL) Lukasz Cygan texted and called me to no avail about applying to and attending St. Joseph's to play basketball. In hindsight, I'm really glad he was relentless.

Your major…

Criminal Justice

Career goals after graduation…

I want to paralegal at a law firm and travel for a year or two before attending Law School.

My dream job is…

To sit on a beach somewhere without a care in the world while my bank account continues to grow well into the millions (legally). If I can't do that, then I'll have to settle and become a lawyer.

Summer plans…

I'm working full-time at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the summer and I'll also be heading out to Italy for 10 days with my family.

On being a Bear…

Best moment in a Bears uniform…

The best moment would undoubtedly have to be finally securing the 2013-2014 HVIAC Championship alongside my 16 brothers (teammates and coaches).

Pre-game rituals or superstitions…

I never warm up with my jersey on and I always lay it out on the front seat of our bench. I love the feeling of a fresh jersey right before tip-off. You'll also always find me quietly praying during the national anthem.

My pump up song before a game is…

I get too excited sometimes so I have to listen to "pump down" R&B, Oldies, or Jazz songs haha. I like to think of it as the calm before the storm.

Favorite road trip so far…

Any road trip that brings my brothers closer together is a favorite road trip of mine. In short: they're all equally great.

Favorite place/food to eat on team trips…

I am a proponent for the rights and equal opportunities of all foods. Any and all food items have an equal chance of being consumed when I look at a menu.

My goal(s) for next season is/are to…

Have a better team record than our previous three seasons. I want our team to improve in every category possible to better our chances of making it back to the USCAA National Championships. Then, of course, we'd love to win the USCAA Championship when we get there.

On being social media famous…

The most likes you've received on an Instagram photo and what was the photo of?

I got 132 likes for taking a selfie with the SJC advertisement that I was featured in on the MTA. I think people really liked the caption and hashtags that I used to go along with it.

True or false? I overuse hashtags.

Favorite SJC Professor…

LOL… I can't pick favorites until I graduate (I still need to secure those A's).

Favorite quote/motto…

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." –Dr. Seuss

Either that one or "Y.O.L.O." by the urban philosopher, Aubrey Graham, because you know… Y.O.L.O.

Final thoughts…

Anything you'd like to share with all the fans out there …

When I first came to St. Joseph's, my only intentions were to earn a criminal justice degree and play college basketball. I came with the idea that I was just going to fly under the radar, and I didn't want to concern myself with making a lot of friends or knowing a lot of people. However, because of the amazing St. Joseph's College community— whether it were classmates, teammates, coaches, professors, fans, or staff members— that thankfully wasn't able to happen. I've gained more than I could have ever imagined as a member of the SJC Bears community, and for that, I humbly thank you, the people. I thank you for making my college experience one of the greatest experiences of my entire life. I so look forward to giving the absolute best of me to the Bears for my upcoming senior year because this family has shown me nothing less than that. God bless!

Check back on Thursday, July 17th for our next Student-Athlete and don't forget to follow our summer Top 10 list every Tuesday!
